Robin McCarthy launched Forma Projects: 21 to help museums, cultural institutions, and individuals develop innovative arts and culture projects and realize their exhibition and outreach goals.
With more than twenty years marketing and project management experience, Robin has produced a diverse range of art projects, exhibitions, and publications for museums, collectors, galleries and artists.
Prior to starting Forma Projects: 21, she served as director of Curatorial Assistance Traveling Exhibitions (CATE) from 1997-2009, where she developed and managed and ongoing program of national and international touring exhibitions addressing a range of contemporary and historic themes.
A desire to work with artists locally led her to create Commissary Arts , a contemporary art gallery in Venice, California. From 2007-2009 the gallery presented an active program of solo and group shows by emerging and mid-career Southern California artists.
Robin holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in Organizational Management from Antioch University Los Angeles. Her experience combines leadership within the arts community with strategies for effective project management, nonprofit management, and marketing.nShe is devoted to environmental sustainability issues and is credentialed as a LEED-AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional, United States Green Building Council) with the intention of weaving green practices into the exhibition process and helping arts organizations integrate sustainability into their galleries and programs.
Robin is a member of ArtTable, American Association of Museums, Western Museums Association, California Association of Museums.
I first met Robin when I curated the exhibition entitled "Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers 1840 to the present" in 2000. Over the years I have seen her create distinguishing work as an administrator and curator. She works collaboratively with designers, artists, curators, and administrators...she is intellectually savvy and has the ability to identify good projects
